With another eventful LaLiga Santander weekend behind us, all that's left to do is to check out the LaLiga Fantasy MARCA Matchday 26 Best XI. Not for the first time, FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi was the Player of the Matchday, amassing an amazing 24 points on this occasion after scoring twice and setting up two goals in his side's imperious 5-0 win over RC Celta.
Interestingly enough, this time round the custodian between the Best XI sticks – Ivan Cuellar –did not keep a clean sheet, or even run out victorious, but the R. Sporting goalkeeper's superb saves prevented his team from falling to a heavier defeat against RC Deportivo. Ahead of the former SD Eibar and Atletico Madrid shotstopper is a three-man defence featuring two of the players who helped Deportivo to their 1-0 triumph at El Molinon: Sidnei (14 points) and Alejandro Arribas (12), who are joined by Barça's Samuel Umtiti, the outstanding defensive performer of the matchday (16).
Four players oozing class make up the midfield, with James Rodriguez (18 points) lining up alongside Real Sociedad's Xabi Prieto (16), Real Madrid teammate Marco Asensio (14)and Deportivo's Pedro Mosquera (also 14). All four got on the scoresheet over the weekend.
Lastly, 24-point Messi partners French duo Karim Benzema (18) and Antoine Griezmann (17) in a front three with enough firepower to make even the meanest backline tremble.
