FC Barcelona provide a goal fest and stay top

FC Barcelona beat Getafe CF 6-0 in the game corresponding to matchday 34 of the Liga BBVA, a game that Luis Enrique’s men killed off in the first half. The victory allows Barcelona to stay top on 84 points, with four games left until the end of the championship. Meanwhile, Getafe are in 13th provisionally on 36 points. 

The Catalan side did not take long to get ahead at the start of the game. In the 8’ minute, the referee pointed to the spot after Luis Suárez was brought down in the area. Leo Messi took charge and delivered a Panenka style shot. The Madrid side could have equalised soon after when Freddy Hinestroza attempted a chip from outside of the area, but Claudio Bravo reacted in time to save it on the line. The second goal came after 25 minutes when Messi put a measured cross in from the right wing and Luis Suárez converted with a great volley. Neymar and Xavi Hernández would continue Barcelona’s effective streak with goals inside and outside of the area respectively. Luis Suárez got the fifth just before the break after a great team move.

The home side’s ambition side did not stop in the second half. Just as the game got underway again, Messi got the sixth from the right hand side with a great left-footed shot to the second post. From then onwards, Luis Enrique lowered the intensity a bit however they continued to have chances. In the 70’ minute, the Madrid side could have opened their account, however, Hinestroza hit the post in a one-on-one with Claudio Bravo. Six minutes from the end, Messi could have scored the seventh with a free-kick, but Vicente Guaita made a great save to leave the final score at 6-0.
