Rayo Vallecano took another step towards top-flight safety after beating Granada CF 3-1 at the Estadio de Vallecas. Alberto Bueno's double saw him reach 15 goals in the Liga BBVA this season, after Jhon Córdoba had put the visitors ahead in the first half.
Two teams destined to fight for survival faced off in a hugely intense, high-tempo first period. Granada began better and took the lead through Córdoba, who beat goalkeeper Cristian Álvarez with a powerful right-foot shot. As the half progressed, Rayo gained territory and were close to equalising when Roberto Trashorras' header hit away custodian Oier Olazábal’s crossbar.
After the restart came the Alberto Bueno show. The Spanish forward netted twice to turn the scoreboard on its head and overtake Jon Pérez Bolo as Rayo’s all-time highest goalscorer in the Liga BBVA. With his side ahead, Paco Jémez introduced another defender to preserve the lead, Adrián Embarba then ensuring the three points stayed at Vallecas with the hosts' third goal. Granada, meanwhile, have gone 12 games without an away win in the league.
