Matchday 21 of the Liga BBVA gets underway with a duel that sees Rayo Vallecano take on RC Deportivo. Rayo currently have six defeats and one draw in nine home league games this season, and will be out to give the crowd at Vallecas something to shout about with a win over the Galicians, who have only picked up six points on the road so far. Víctor Fernández’s men travel to Madrid with optimism, looking to climb up the division and move away from the relegation zone.

Team news

Deportivo make the trip without Luis Fariña, who is suspended for two matches after receiving a straight red card in their previous outing against Granada CF, and without the injured Hélder Postiga. However, they will have the Costa Rican international Celso Borges available in their bid for victory. Meanwhile, Rayo welcome Léo Baptistão and Roberto Román 'Tito' back from injury for the encounter.

Views from the dugout

Fernández had words of praise for his side’s upcoming opponents: "Rayo are a team who fight all or nothing, and that’s a positive quality. Hedging your bets isn’t a phrase in their vocabulary; they go out to win every game, they’re not happy with a draw, they always look for the win. It’s a match in which you have to be on top of your game in both boxes, you have to be strong and tough in those areas and show a lot of patience," he underlined.

Paco Jémez spoke in similar terms about Deportivo: "They’re a team looking to make their way forward. They’re out of danger but they can’t afford to relax. They’re coming here to win, to improve their situation, and when they have a good day they’re dangerous. It’s a very important match; it can leave us in a good position for what’s ahead."
