Matchday 24 in the Liga BBVA kicked off with a 2-1 win for Getafe over Espanyol. The three points breathe life into the Madrid side, who move further away from the relegation zone and into 12th position in the table on 26 points.

The home side fired the first warning shot in the game. Their hunger for victory lead them to dominating the play and creating all the chances in the first half. Quique Sánchez Flores' side drowned Espanyol with pressure, who suffered without their talisman Sergio García. Getafe made the most of the captain's absence and they took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Pablo Sarabia, who scored from a pass from Alexis Ruano.

The second half began with more bad news for the visitors. Former Espanyol academy graduate Álvaro Vázquez doubled the lead with a great shot and left his former side with a mountain to climb. Now two goals up, Getafe continued to control the ball and minimalised Sergio Gónzalez's forward advances, despite the entrance of Salva Sevilla from the bench and Lucas Vázquez's incursions into the box. Espanyol only managed to get themselves back into the game in the 90th minute, when Anaitz Arbilla scored to make it 2-1. The goal made the final minutes of the match the more interesting, but there was enough time for Espanyol to strike again.
