There were several big headlines in LALIGA EA SPORTS this past week, from the results of Matchday 31 to a coaching change at Sevilla FC to the confirmation of the kick-off time of ELCLASICO. All that and more is outlined below.

FC Barcelona pick up three points in Leganés

LALIGA EA SPORTS leaders FC Barcelona added three more points to their tally by eking out a 1-0 victory away at CD Leganés on Saturday night. It was a tough game for the Catalan outfit, but they managed to earn the win thanks to a Jorge Sáenz own goal, some heroic defending and great play from Wojciech Szczęsny.

Real Madrid remain just behind thanks to Camavinga

The gap in the title race remains at four points, after Real Madrid won their own Matchday 31 fixture. Los Blancos overcame Deportivo Alavés 1-0 on the road thanks to an excellent Eduardo Camavinga strike, an important win for the capital city side especially considering they played more than half an hour with a man disadvantage.

Sevilla FC replace García Pimienta with Joaquín Caparrós

Following a 1-0 defeat away at Valencia CF, Sevilla FC decided to make a coaching change this weekend. García Pimienta has been dismissed, with former coach Joaquín Caparrós brought in until the end of the season. The 69-year-old has already coached Sevilla FC on multiple occasions.

Valencia CF keep on winning

The other side of the coin of that 1-0 victory for Valencia CF over Sevilla FC is that Los Che have now won three matches in a row for the first time this season. They’re now closer to the European qualification positions than to the relegation zone.

UD Las Palmas earn their first win of 2025

UD Las Palmas remain in the relegation zone for now, but they achieved an important victory in Matchday 31, defeating Getafe CF 3-1 on the road. This was their first victory in 2025, after a drought of 12 league matches without a win.

Villarreal CF take a huge step towards the Champions League

Villarreal CF achieved one of the most significant results of the matchday, winning 2-1 on the road against Real Betis. Despite falling behind after three minutes, El Submarino Amarillo fought back thanks to goals from Thierno Barry and Ayoze Pérez to defeat one of their direct rivals for Champions League qualification. With a game in hand still to come, Marcelino’s side are in an excellent position.

RCD Espanyol win in Vigo for the first time since 2007

Thanks to two goals from Roberto Fernández, RCD Espanyol won 3-1 away at RC Celta on Saturday. Not only was this a big result for Los Pericos in the relegation battle, but it was also their first win in Vigo since 2007.

The date and kick-off time of ELCLASICO are revealed

It was revealed this past week exactly when ELCLASICO in Matchday 35 will take place. FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will resume their rivalry on Sunday May 11th at 16:15 CEST, with the match taking place at the Estadi Olímpic in the Catalan capital.

Atlético de Madrid secure a long-term deal with Nike

It was announced this past week that Atlético de Madrid and Nike are extending their relationship until 2035. The Spanish club have been partners with the American brand for most of this century and have agreed to a huge new deal.

Four Spanish clubs prepare for their European second legs

There are four Spanish clubs still alive in European football this season, and they all played their quarter-final first legs this past week. In the case of the home teams, they earned victories as FC Barcelona thrashed Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in the Champions League and Real Betis overcame Jagiellonia Białystok 2-0 in the Conference League. In the case of Real Madrid, they lost 3-0 away at Arsenal in the Champions League and will now hope to achieve another epic comeback in the second leg at the Bernabéu. As for Athletic Club, they drew 0-0 at Glasgow Rangers in the Europa League quarters and now welcome the Scottish side to San Mamés.
