The meeting was attended by the government officials responsible for sport from the 27 European Union countries together with European Commission representatives.

LALIGA explained the Spanish regulatory framework, as well as its collaborations with players, clubs, fans and public authorities in the fight against hate crime.

During the session, LALIGA presented the work it is carrying out in this area, brought together since this season under the LALIGA VS initiative, a project by LALIGA and the clubs to eradicate hatred and violence inside and outside stadiums, which is based on three pillars: education, prevention and action. This initiative seeks to inspire and raise awareness in society through the values of sport.

Education is carried out through campaigns with players, clubs and fans to raise awareness of the problem. Prevention involves the organisation of workshops and training courses with the various parties involved, as well as coordination with law enforcement agencies. And finally, in taking firm action, LALIGA investigates incidents linked to professional football in all matches involving its teams. LALIGA has the technical and human resources to carry out these investigations and to report incidents to the appropriate bodies.

LALIGA also stressed to the Sports Working Group the importance of having the power to sanction incidents linked to hate crimes that take place in football competitions organised by LALIGA recognised in law.
