HISTORY

The history of ElClasico

El Clasico is not just a football match. FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF put on one of the biggest sporting spectacles in the world every season in LALIGA EA SPORTS.

It doesn't matter where in the world you are to enjoy the Spanish footballing classic. When the ball starts rolling in El Clasico, the world stops for 90 minutes to watch Real Madrid’s and Barcelona's stars play.

El Clasico is the most hotly anticipated match by football fans the world over and is broadcast in more than 190 countries.

HISTORY

The first El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid played in LALIGA EA SPORTS was on 17 February 1929 at Les Corts, Barcelona's old stadium, and ended in a 2-1 win for Real Madrid.

ELCLÁSICO LEADERS

The player who have played the most Clasicos between Barcelona and Real Madrid are Sergio Busquets 46 games. The Argentine striker is the top scorer of all time, with 26 goals in El Clasico.

Since then, LALIGA EA SPORTS El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid has been played 186 times. The statistics are very evenly matched. Real Madrid have come out on top 77 times, whilst Barcelona have beaten their arch-rivals on 74 occasions. The teams have drawn 35 times.

Luís Figo

If you really want to know about the rivalry inherent in El Clasico, then Luis Figo is the man to talk to. The Portuguese player signed for FC Barcelona in the 1995/96 season and became a key member of the team.

In 2000, Figo signed for Real Madrid and quickly assumed the figurehead role in "Real Madrid's Galacticos". The Portuguese is one of the few players who truly knows what it’s like to suffer the pressures of El Clasico and he also knows what it feels like to score for both teams in this iconic clash of titans, netting three for Barcelona and one for Real Madrid.

Samuel Eto'o

El delantero camerunés triunfó con la camiseta del FC Barcelona tras no lograr hacerse un hueco en el Real Madrid, en cuya cantera se había formado.

Debutó con los blancos en diciembre de 1998 y tras pasar por CD Leganés, RCD Espanyol y RCD Mallorca firmó en 2004 por el equipo azulgrana. Como culé, en 5 temporadas, ganó 3 ediciones de LALIGA y dos Ligas de Campeones, además de un trofeo de máximo goleador. 

Samuel Eto'o fue protagonista en diversas ediciones de ELCLÁSICO: participó en 8 duelos, en los que logró un total de 4 goles.

Ronaldo Nazario

Considered one of the greatest strikers in the history of football, Ronaldo moved to FC Barcelona from PSV Eindhoven in the 1996/97 season. The Brazilian made history in LaLiga, among other things for his goal against SD Compostela in his debut season.

It was not until 2002, with a World Cup and a Ballon d'Or to his name, that the Brazilian star returned to Spain to sign for Real Madrid, where he played until 2007. He won LaLiga with Los Blancos in the 2002/03 season. Ronaldo found the back of the net in El Clasico in both shirts: two in Barcelona's colours and four in Real Madrid's.

Luis Enrique Martínez

El polivalente jugador asturiano defendió los colores de los dos contendientes de ELCLÁSICO, siendo protagonista con ambas camisetas. Tras saltar al profesionalismo con el Sporting de Gijón, firmó en 1991 por el Real Madrid, donde permaneció 5 temporadas y ganó 3 títulos (1 LALIGA).

En 1996 se incorporó al FC Barcelona, donde se retiró en 2004 tras 8 campañas y un total de 7 títulos, entre ellos 2 ediciones de LALIGA EA SPORTS para un total de 3 campeonatos nacionales.

Luis Enrique demostró sus capacidades goleadoras en ELCLÁSICO con un total de 31 encuentros (18 como culé y 13 como merengue) de los que 22 fueron de LALIGA. En ellos anotó 6 tantos, 1 como madridista y 5 con la camiseta del FC Barcelona.

Tras su retirada inició una carrera como entrenador que le llevó también a ser técnico del FC Barcelona durante 3 temporadas, ganando dos veces LALIGA EA SPORTS.

Michael Laudrup

Michael Laudrup landed in LaLiga in the 1989/90 season, joining the ranks of FC Barcelona. The Dane played for Los Azulgranas for five seasons, winning LALIGA in four of them.

He decided a change of scenery was in order in 1995/96, opting to switch sides and join his arch-rivals. He completed two seasons at Real Madrid.

In the first of those, Laudrup made the scoresheet in Real Madrid's 5-0 drubbing of Barcelona in El Clasico.

Interestingly, the season before that, the Dane was also involved Barcelona's 5-0 demolition of Real Madrid in that year’s El Clasico.

Bernd Schuster

El centrocampista alemán Bernd Schuster es otro de los jugadores más destacados que han vestido las camisetas del Real Madrid y el FC Barcelona, protagonistas de ELCLÁSICO. Llegó al club catalán en 1980 y defendió los colores azulgrana durante 8 temporadas hasta que en 1988 firmó por el Real Madrid. Como blanco compitió 2 temporadas antes de fichar por el Atlético de Madrid (3 campañas).

Ganó 3 veces LALIGA, 1 con el FC Barcelona (un total de 8 títulos) y 2 con el Real Madrid (5). Disputó 19 partidos entre ambos equipos (16 de ellos de LALIGA EA SPORTS) en los que metió 2 goles, los dos con el equipo azulgrana.

Tras retirarse inició una trayectoria como entrenador que le llevó a dirigir al Real Madrid durante temporada y media, ganando una vez LALIGA.

Jesús Pereda

Jesús Pereda fue una leyenda del FC Barcelona, pero anteriormente defendió la camiseta del Real Madrid. Con los blancos militó en la temporada 1957/58, ganando LALIGA EA SPORTS y la Copa de Europa.

Tras pasar por el Real Valladolid y el Sevilla FC se incorporó al FC Barcelona en 1961, permaneciendo 8 temporadas en las que ganó 2 Copas y 1 Copa de Ferias. Participó en 10 partidos entre culés y merengues (8 de LALIGA), todos con la camiseta del FC Barcelona, en los que anotó un gol en partido de Copa.

Internacional por España, fue clave en la consecución de la Eurocopa de 1964 al anotar el primer gol y asistir en el segundo a Marcelino en la final ante la URSS (2-1).

Josep Samitier

El delantero barcelonés es una de las primeras leyendas del FC Barcelona, en el que permaneció entre 1919 y 1932. Con los culés ganó la primera edición de LALIGA EA SPORTS, la 1928/29. 

Tras concluir su paso por el club azulgrana, firmó por el Real Madrid (1932-1934), donde coincidió con Ricardo Zamora. Como merengue ganó su segundo título de LALIGA.

Disputó 6 ediciones de ELCLÁSICO en LALIGA, 4 con el Barça y 2 como merengue, marcando 4 goles, uno como culé y 3 con la camiseta blanca. Jugó otros dos duelos coperos entre ambos equipos en Copa antes del nacimiento de LALIGA, en los que marcó 4 y 2 goles, rspectivamente.

Tras su retirada, ya como entrenador, se sentó en el banquillo del FC Barcelona, ganando LALIGA una vez como culé (1944/45). Fue también secreario técnico en los dos protagonistas de ELCLÁSICO.

Ricardo Zamora

Ricardo Zamora, conocido como 'El Divino', es uno de los más importantes porteros de la historia del fútbol español. Natural de Barcelona, vistió la elástica azulgrana de 1919 a 1922.

Regresó posteriormente al RCD Espanyol, donde permaneció hasta 1930, cuando se incorporó al conjunto blanco (1930-1936). Consiguió con los merengues dos títulos de LALIGA.

Defendió la portería del Real Madrid en 9 ediciones de ELCLÁSICO y se retiró de la práctica futbolística precisamente en un duelo ante el FC Barcelona, la final de la Copa de 1936, que ganaron los blancos (2-1) con una actuación que las crónicas de la época tilda de memorable.

Otros jugadores

Son varios otros los futbolistas que han pasado en su trayectoria por el Real Madrid y el FC Barcelona, siendo el primer jugador en cambiar de camiseta Alfonso Albéniz, que jugó en el FC Barcelona entre 1901 y 1902 y con el Real Madrid entre 1902 y 1911.

En los primeros años hubo otros futbolistas como José Quirante, Arsenio Comamala, los hermandos Joaquín y Alfonso Navarro e Hilario Marrero que hicieron el trasvase. También Walter Rositzky, que se convirtió en el primer extranjero en vestir ambas camisetas; la del FC Barcelona (1911-1913) y la del Real Madrid (1913-1914).

Tras el alemán llegaron otros futbolistas foráneos que jugaron en ambos equipos en unos años de pocos cambios entre ambas escuadras de jugadores nacionales. Algunos de ellos fueron László Kaszás, Fernand Goyvaert, Lucien Müller y especialmente Evaristo Macedo, delantero brasileño que jugó cinco años como culé y tres como merengue.

En los últimos años del siglo XX y primeros del XXI el trasvase entre Real Madrid y FC Barcelona (o a la inversa). Los últimos movimientos fueron los de Luis Milla, Nando Muñoz, Julen Lopetegui, Gica Hagi, Robert Prosinečki, Miquel Soler, Albert Celades, Dani García, Alfonso Pérez, Javier Saviola y Marcos Alonso.
