It was a great, head-to-head clash at the International Champions Cup match in Guangzhou (China) where Real Madrid CF battled Inter of Milan. The fans barely had time to settle into their seats before Icardi gave Real Madrid an early scare. The Argentinean striker came close to scoring the first goal. Gareth Bale provided the reply for Real Madrid and could have opened the scoring on two occasions. Madrid kept growing stronger and the match gradually turned into a solo recital by Rafa Benitez's men, who continually applied pressure on the rival area, only to be thwarted by Handanovic. After several attempts and clear opportunities for the Spanish squad, Jese freed himself from Murillo with a beautiful move inside the area and his left foot shot moved the scoreboard to 0-1.

In the second half, with Pepe, Ramos, Bale, Cristiano and Keylor Navas already on the bench, Real Madrid tried to exploit the speed up front of Lucas Vazquez and Denis Cheryshev. It was the former who would assist Raphaël Varane after the rebound from a corner kick, enabling the French centre back to tickle the twines for a 0-2 lead.
Benitez kept on using his bench but the sharpest player of the second half would continue to be the Russian winger Cheryshev. In the final stages of the match, amidst a host of changes by both managers, Guarin could have cut into the lead against Kiko Casilla, who made his pre-season debut with Real Madrid. But it was James Rodriguez, with a tremendous direct free kick, who scored the final goal in the 0-3 triumph.
