They were the stars last year in their respective teams and their performances were pivotal to their sides’ results in the 2013-14 Liga Adelante. The goals scored by Yuri de Souza (SD Ponferradina), the confidence of Uli Dávila (Córdoba CF) and the incredible saves made by Germán Lux (RC Deportivo) have made them nominees for the 'Best American Player in the 2013-14 Liga Adelante' prize, which will be decided by popular vote among LFP.es users. The '2014 LFP Awards Ceremony' (27 October, on La Sexta, at 10.30 pm) will be the perfect stage on which to celebrate the performances of these players last season.
The Brazilian Yuri was, without doubt, Ponferradina’s big star last season. His 12 goals in 37 games epitomise his contribution to a team that secured survival before the championship was over. He was the top-goalscorer for the side managed by Claudio Barragán, something which he has achieved in his five campaigns as a player for the Bierzo club.
On the subject of goals, the one scored by Uli Dávila at the Gran Canaria Stadium is the most important in the recent history of Córdoba CF, since it earned them promotion after more than four decades in the Liga Adelante. The Mexican went down in the Andalusian club’s history books thanks to one of the six goals he scored last season. His skill, cunning and confidence, typical characteristics of footballers in the Americas, made him a regular starter in his first and only season with the Blanquiverdes.
While those two were responsible for scoring goals, our final nominee faced the difficult task of stopping them: Germán Lux. The Argentine goalkeeper emerged as the starting number one for the Galician side in the 2013-14 season and his great work between the posts made him lord and master of the goal at the Riazor Stadium for 37 matches in the competition, in which he conceded just 29 goals. These stats make him the second meanest goalkeeper in the championship.
