On 12 January 2015 the FIFA Ballon d’Or will be presented in Zurich (Switzerland) and the Liga BBVA will be present, with two of the three finalists for the main prize.
Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona's Lionel Messi are the two players from Spain’s top flight who will fight it out to win the award that they have alternated lifting since 2008. FC Bayern München and Germany's World Cup winning goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, completes the shortlist.
The two forwards, who have wowed football fans worldwide in 2014 were not the only players from Liga BBVA to be recognised, with ten current and five former stars on the initial 23-man shortlist for the FIFA Ballon d'Or.
Also, the excellent achievements of Carlo Ancelotti and Diego Pablo Simeone on the touchline at Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid respectively, have been recognised. Both coaches, alongside Germany's Joachim Löw, are nominated for the FIFA World Coach of the Year in men’s football.
