20 sides, 260 players, nerves and above all lots of desire to take part in the tournament. One more year, there have now been 22, the La Liga Under-12 sides play for the most prestigious grassroots tournament in Spanish football. The first day once again showed the level of the academies, in addition to the work and dedication of the coaching staff at the clubs.
In the three pitches on which the games were consecutively played in the group stage, there was no shortage of family and friends to support those chasing the dream. On the pitch there was no shortage of quality and goals, and away from LaLiga Promises it was a genuine footballing party.
Villarreal’s Ciudad Deportiva was packed out first thing in the morning with flags, scarves, the sides’ shirts and lots of fans that wanted to enjoy football in its purest form.
In the changing rooms, the teams came and went, there were teamtalks and peptalks from coaches. The faces that showed concentration minutes before the games started left nobody in doubt about the huge prestige of this tournament. Former players such as Míchel and Arnau, who are now suffering parents, the former goalkeeper Molina and Villarreal boss Marcelino did not want to miss the date. They all came together for the importance of the training and value that youngsters show.
The football continues in the second day with the last 16 and quarterfinals being played.
