Matchday 23 in Liga BBVA saw history made on a weekend full of great games such as Real Madrid - RC Deportivo, Rayo Vallecano - Villarreal CF and RC Celta -Atlético Madrid.

Leo Messi, the man of the weekend
The Argentine forward once again shone in his side's latest game. This time he scored a hat trick on his 300th appearance for the club. Not only did his three goals help Barcelona down Levante, he became the leading assist giver in Liga BBVA; his lay off for Neymar for the game's first goal earning him his 107th in the competition.
Also, in the last few games, Messi has come right back into the Pichichi race, scoring in his last seven matchdays to move up to 26 strikes this season, just two behind Cristiano Ronaldo.

100 games and counting
Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla celebrated his century of games in the competition by saving a Nordin Amrabat penalty. "I hadn't saved a spot kick since I was in Liga Adelante," said the stopper after the game. The save was crucial as the Catalan outfit ran out 0-2 winners against one of Liga BBVA's form sides.

Hemed shines for JIM
Since the coach arrived at Almería, without doubt Tomer Hemed has been his shining light in the fight for survival. The Israeli forward has scored seven goals in Liga BBVA, six of which have come following Juan Ignacio Martínez's arrival at the Andalusian side.

Rayo win again at home
Three months and four matchdays after their last home win, the Vallecas-based side got back to winning ways in a tremendous game. Rayo had never beaten Villarreal at home before in Liga BBVA, but they did so in spectacular fashion, seeing off the Yellows 2-0 to inject life into their season.

Atlético's bête noire
This season Celta have proven to be awkward opponents for the reigning champions. After drawing 2-2 at the Vicente Calderón earlier this season, the Galician outfit went one better and saw off Diego Simeone's men this time round. After the euphoria of beating Real Madrid 4-0 last week, Los Rojiblancos, who were without key players Arda Turan and Koke, were slain 2-0 at Balaídos, meaning Celta have therefore taken four points off Atletico this season.
