Team News:
- Rayo Vallecano: David Cobeño, Toño, Patrick Ebert, Raul Baena and Ze Castro (all injured); Piti, Razvan Rat and Javi Guerra (doubtful).
- Real Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo and Dani Carvajal (injured); Casemiro (suspended).
Match Facts: Rayo (16th, 35 pts):
- With Getafe CF, R. Sporting and Granada CF all victorious last matchday, the lower reaches of the table are looking tighter than ever and the team from Vallecas need to win to preserve daylight between themselves and the drop zone. Survival is the only thing on their mind.
- The stats don't make pleasant reading for Rayo, who have lost all of their recent matches at home to Real Madrid. However, as is his wont, Paco Jemez will demand character from his players and seek to take the game to a depleted Real Madrid side.
Real Madrid (3rd, 78 pts):
- Los Blancos have won eight on the bounce in the Liga BBVA, a run that has taken them to within a point of the summit. Zinedine Zidane's troops know that a slip-up at this stage of the title race is not an option, and will be bidding to extend their winning streak to nine games in order to pile the pressure on Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona, who play after them.

- Cristiano Ronaldo could be a big miss. The top scorer in LaLiga won't make the short trip to Vallecas due to injury, but the club is confident that there is enough quality in the squad to cope without their leading marksman in what promises to be a testing encounter. Zidane sounded a confident note to this effect: "We're having a very good period and we just have to carry on in the same vein."
Don't leave Madrid without… making the most of the range of performances, workshops, readings, talks with writers, film screenings, concerts and other literary initiatives organised to tie in with World Book Day on Saturday 23 April. There will be events going on all weekend, including the Madrid region's very own Book Night on Friday evening.
