SÁB 14.05.2016

It's celebration time for Andres Iniesta as the Barcelona midfielder capped off the week in which he turned 32 by lifting the Liga BBVA title.

An eighth domestic crown sees the Spanish midfielder once again taste the sweet smell of success, but this one will go down as being that little bit extra special. The departure of his partner in crime and friend, Xavi Hernandez, saw Iniesta assume the captain's armband, as he prepared to face his first full season as Barça skipper. In his debut campaign as captain, the FC Barcelona number 8 has led his side to Liga BBVA glory, and in so doing has written his name into the history books by matching the eight domestic titles won by Alfredo Di Stefano and Manuel Sanchis Jr, to become the most decorated Spaniard still plying his trade.

This latest domestic title ups the 32-year-old's trophy tally to the magic 30 and puts him in the company of global footballing icons and some of the most decorated players to have graced the game, such as Pele, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. What better way for a player to cap off an excellent season than by joining this select group of legends?  What's more, this has all been achieved as Iniesta continues to command an important role for both club and country.

Having surpassed Xavi Hernandez's trophy haul, Iniesta will shortly be presented with the opportunity to add a further piece of silverware to his burgeoning collection. The Copa del Rey final provides the Azulgranas' stalwart with the chance to continue rewriting the history books.
