Eduardo Berizzo's side ultimately came up short in their quest to return home with a clean sweep of victories from their first-ever involvement in the LaLiga World programme. The thousands who took their places inside the Gran Parque Central stadium saw Club Nacional de Football - a side boasting several figures who have previously plied their trade in Spanish football, including coach Martin Lasarte and forward Sebastian Fernandez - claim victory.
Indeed it was the former Malaga CF and Rayo Vallecano hitman who put the hosts ahead, with the Uruguayan striker later commenting that it was "a privilege" for him and the supporters to be hosting the LaLiga sides. Fernandez's comments were echoed by his coach, Martin Lasarte, who voiced his hope that "LaLiga World continues to grow and goes on to become a regular fixture, because it's highly beneficial for us."
Meanwhile, RC Celta boss, Eduardo Berizzo, was quick to express just how pleased he was with his side's stay in Montevideo, sharing his desire "that we'll be able to repeat the experience in the future." Elsewhere, midfielder Borja Fernandez enthused at the prospect of the tour "helping Celta to become an even bigger club."
This game marked the Celestes' final involvement in their first-ever appearance at a LaLiga World event, during which they recorded a win over RC Deportivo, before slipping to defeat to Club Nacional. Celta's time in the Uruguayan capital really caught the locals' imagination, with fans flocking to see their team in action and making the most of the chance to witness the first-ever Galician derby to have been staged outside of Spain.
