Villarreal CF host Atlético de Madrid on matchday 34 in the Liga BBVA, a match that pits together two teams hoping to seal their respective European places. On one side are the Yellow Submarine, in sixth place on 53 points and looking to book their place in the Europa League again. On the other side are the Madrid side, on 72 points, who will be looking to keep their distance with their closest rival for third place, Valencia.

Team news

Denís Chéryshev, Bruno Soriano and Mateo Musacchio are ruled out through injury, and Giovani dos Santos, Luciano Vietto and Ikechukwu Uche also miss out with muscle problems, while Jonathan dos Santos misses the match through suspension.
Atlético de Madrid's only absentee is Cani, who is prevented from playing for contractual reasons. Raúl Jimenez and Cristian Daniel Ansaldi have been left out of the squad.

Marcelino García Toral, the Villarreal coach, said his side were up against "a very competitive team and one of the best teams at set pieces in the league, along with Athletic Club". He also sppke about his team's recent form, saying: "We've created a lot of chances in our last two matches but the rival goalkeepers have played very well. We need to keep on trying." Diego Pablo Simeone also analysed his side's rival. "Its always good to watch a team like Villarreal. They are fast, well organised and very strong tactically."
