News

THU 09.10.2014

Previously… He made his professional debut with CA Peñarol and after two seasons with the Uruguayan club he crossed the pond to Spain, where he played eleven seasons in the Liga BBVA and the Liga Adelante, with six different teams: CP Mérida, Málaga CF, Valencia CF, Atlético Madrid, RCD Mallorca and Hércules.

His achievements… In his first season with Málaga, when the side from the Costa del Sol won promotion to the Liga BBVA, De los Santos played 17 matches in the Liga Adelante and scored two goals. At Valencia CF he won two titles in his first campaign with the club: the Liga BBVA and, in 2004, the UEFA Super Cup.

After hanging up his boots… He retired from football while at the club he started at, Peñarol in Montevideo in 2010, at the age of 34. Like a lot of players, he made the switch to the dugout, and in October 2013 he became the manager of Uruguayan club Miramar Misiones, where he stayed until February 2014.

Did you know… After three seasons with Málaga, Valencia CF signed him with what was, at the time, the most expensive signing in the history of the club from the Mestalla (2.5 billion pesetas).
