LUN 27.04.2015

Previously… Roy Makaay was a prolific Dutch striker who made his name in Spain during a trophy-laden spell at RC Deportivo de La Coruña. However, before ending up at the Galician side, Makaay played for CD Tenerife in the Liga BBVA for two seasons, scoring 21 goals.

His achievements… Makaay experienced his best years as a player while at Deportivo, picking up the Liga BBVA title, a Copa del Rey and two Supercopas de España. What’s more, the Dutch hitman finished top scorer in the Liga BBVA in the 2002-03 season, his last in Spain, with 29 goals.

After hanging up his boots... Makaay brought his playing career to an end at the end of the 2009/10 season after playing for four seasons at FC Bayern München, where he picked up two Bundesliga titles, and three more seasons at Dutch side Feyenoord. After hanging up his boots, the Dutch striker stayed on at the Rotterdam club to work in the academy.

Did you know… One of the finest moments in Makaay’s career came while he was playing for Bayern in the 2006-07 UEFA Champions League against Real Madrid. The Dutchman made history in the tournament by scoring the fastest goal ever in the competition, netting after just 10 seconds in a 2-1 win for Bayern, who qualified for the quarter finals on away goals.
