UD Almería host Málaga CF on matchday 36 of the Liga BBVA in a game in which the home side will attempt to increase the gap between themselves and the relegation zone and move closer to ensuring survival. With nine points up for grabs between now and the end of the season, Málaga face a difficult task achieving the goal of sixth place, which brings access to the UEFA Europa League, but go into the clash out to keep themselves in the hunt.

Almería boss Sergi Barjuan will be without Míchel Macedo and Fran Vélez, who remain injured, while Mauro dos Santos also misses out due to suspension. For Javi Gracia's Málaga, midfielder Ignacio Camacho is the chief absentee through fitness issues.

Barjuan called on his players to show intensity in the match: "We have to be aggressive to ensure victory doesn’t get away from us. It’s a very important game, but we mustn’t lose our heads." Gracia, meanwhile, is aware of his team’s position: "We know that we’re on our last chance for Europe. We go to Almería raring to get the three points".
