Uche guides Villarreal to victory

Villarreal overcame UD Almería 2-0 on matchday 8 of the Liga BBVA. Marcelino García Toral’s side completed their second win on the trot and climbed into the European qualification spots.

Almería set out to make life difficult for the home side, but it was not enough to keep them out. In the first chance of the encounter, defender Ximo Navarro hit a long shot that was cleared by Sergio Asenjo. Villarreal then woke up and the first goal quickly came for the home team. Mario Gaspar hit a powerful strike that was parried by goalkeeper Rubén, and Ikechukwu Uche got on the end of the rebound to score with his head into an empty goal.

It was the new Nigerian forward who extended the Yellows' lead in the second half. Denis Cheryshev started the move, before passing to Moi Gómez, who crossed to the far post and Uche finished. With 2-0 on the scoreboard, the visitors did not have any great chances to close the gap. The best opportunity came in the 83rd minute when Corona struck the ball from in front of the box and it narrowly missed. The scoreline remained at 2-0 until the final whistle and Villarreal claimed their fourth victory of the season.
