Real Madrid - 34 titles

Los Merengues have won LaLiga Santander more than any other club, managing to finish first in 34 of the 90 seasons in which they have featured in the competition. Alongside FC Barcelona and Athletic Club de Bilbao they are the only team in LaLiga to have never been relegated.

The last time Los Blancos won LaLiga Santander was in the 2019/20 season. Zinedine Zidane’s charges finished on 87 points, having won 26 games, drawn nine and lost three. Another notable and close-fought campaign in which Real Madrid came out victorious was the 2011/12 season, in which they reached 100 points, a feat which had previously never been achieved in the competition’s history.

FC Barcelona - 26 titles

Barça are second in the ranking of most LaLiga Santander titles won, having done so 26 times. They have won ten of these titles since the turn of the century and have won more league titles than any other club in the last decade, five in total.

From the 2008/09 season onwards, Les Culés managed to win LaLiga Santander in three consecutive seasons. In 2012/13, they managed to equal the record of 100 points in a season previously just held by Real Madrid. The last time Barcelona won the league was in 2018/19, in which Leo Messi scored 36 times to finish the season as the Pichichi, followed by his teammate Luis Suarez who struck on 21 occasions.

Atletico Madrid - 11 titles

Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid have already gone down in history as a legendary team and are also the reigning champions of LaLiga Santander. Since the Argentine took the reins at the club in 2011, the club have won two league titles, which means that they have 11 in total.

Atletico fans have many unforgettable title-winning memories. There have been the double-winning side of the 1995/96 campaign, and Diego Godin’s piercing header that nearly broke the back of the net at the Camp Nou stadium to win the title in the 2013/14 season, and most recently the epic climax to LaLiga Santander 2020/21. Los Rojiblancos came from behind to beat Real Valladolid on the last day of the season thanks to goals from Angel Correa and Luis Suarez.

Athletic Club – 8 titles

Athletic Club de Bilbao sit fourth on this list, having won eight championships in total. They are very much part of the LaLiga Santander furniture, having featured in all 90 seasons of the competition, as have Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

The 1983/84 season was the last time that Los Leones managed to win the title. That trophy win was in fact a second on the bounce, having won the league the previous season as well.

Valencia CF – 6 titles

Valencia CF are fifth on this list, having finished first in the Spanish top flight six times. Los Che shone in the early years of the 21st century, which was one of the most memorable periods in the club's history.

In the 2001/02 season, Valencian managed to win the title 31 years after their previous triumph, after racking up 75 points in 38 games, winning 21 games, drawing 12 and losing fives. Their defensive solidity was key to their success, with Santi Cañizares only conceding 23 goals and being awarded the Zamora trophy in the process.

Two seasons later, a Valencia team led by Rafa Benitez would once again be crowned champions. Miguel Angel Ferrer, more commonly known as Mista, was the most outstanding player in his side’s attack, netting on 19 occasions. The club are yet to win a league title since then.

Real Sociedad – 2 titles

The beginning of the 1980s will never be forgotten by Txuri-Urdin’s fans. A legendary Real Sociedad side managed to win the LaLiga Santander championship consecutively in the 1980/81 and 1981/82 seasons, the only two league titles in the San Sebastian club’s trophy cabinet. This version of La Real went down in history and will be long remembered amongst Spanish football followers.

RC Deportivo de la Coruña – 1 title

RC Deportivo de la Coruña enjoyed a golden era in the 1990s and at the turn of the century. Los Herculinos won their only LaLiga Santander title in the 1999/00 season, on the final matchday after beating RCD Espanyol 2-0. Players like Roy Makaay, Fran, Djalminha and Mauro Silva became legendary figures in the history of the competition.

In addition to winning the league, Los Blanquiazules came close to adding to their tally on other occasions, finishing as runners up four times.

Sevilla FC – 1 title

Sevilla FC have managed to win the LaLiga Santander title on one occasion, in the 1945/46 season. Los Nervionenses have also finished as runners-up four times in their 77 seasons in LaLiga.

Real Betis – 1 title

Along with their aforementioned city rivals Real Betis have also won one LaLiga Santander title, doing so in the 1934/35 season. Los Verdiblancos have taken part in a total 55 editions of the Spanish top flight.
