Thursday's round of games provided the other three semi-finalists for the Copa del Rey, who with join FC Barcelona as hopefuls for Cup glory. Villarreal CF, RCD Espanyol and Athletic Club sealed passage through to the next round on what was an exciting night of football.

Marcelino García Toral’s side was the first to secure qualification thanks to a single goal from Gerard Moreno that left the aggregate score at 2-0 against Getafe CF. The “yellow submarine” side had won by a single Bruno Soriano goal in the first leg and on Wednesday they repeated the result to reach the Copa del Rey semi-finals for the first time in their history. The result means that Villarreal have gone undefeated over 18 matches in all competitions and have scored at least one goal in the last 25 consecutive matches.

In another very close game, it was the Basque side who reached the Copa del Rey semi-finals for the 45th time. After a 0-0 draw in the first leg, the team’s leading goal scorer, Aritz Aduriz was responsible for breaking the deadlock at the San Mamés with his goal in the second half that sent the Bilbao team into the next round. In the next phase, their rivals will be Espanyol, who were able to rely on the 3-1 win in their first leg to earn their place among the top four teams of the 2014-15 Cup tournament, despite losing 1-0 in the Sánchez Pizjuán against a Seville side who were one goal short of a comeback.
