Javier Tebas appeared before the press following the Extraordinary Meeting of Shareholders that took place this Monday at the headquarters of the LFP in Madrid. After having read the official notice of the agreement adopted by the club present at the meeting, the president stated clearly that “the message of condemnation from Spanish football in relation to the attitude of the president of the RFEF is unanimous” before adding that “clubs do not feel represented by the president of the RFEF”.

Tebas explained that “we don’t have a problem with the RFEF, but rather, the problem is with the president of the RFEF” and he added that “everybody wants the Royal Decree to go ahead, last Thursday we were called upon by the government in order to make the definitive move forward and the RFEF did not attend. This is a problem that we need to resolve”. The president also pointed out that the “RFEF wants to mix the content of the Royal Decree with a justification of subsidies and grassroots football” and he stated that “these problems cannot be mixed because the aim of this agreement is to not only benefit professional football, it is also targeted at benefitting the fans”.

The president of the LFP responded to the notice issued by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Friday night. “This is a rash and incorrect notice. I will stick with point two, where they support the demands of professional football in the Royal Decree. We hope that the RFEF takes note of this because otherwise they will be directly opposed by Spanish professional football”. The leader of La Liga highlighted the fact that “everyone has agreed, that if the president of the RFEF does not react appropriately with a few days, it will be necessary to leave the posts of the Management Board and Delegate Committee. That is why we are talking about the direct opposition of Spanish football, it is not an obligation, it is the wish of all of the clubs”.

Javier Tebas ended the press conference by explaining that “I have not spoken to the president of the RFEF in more than a year and a half. I do not have a personal war with anybody. Every week we send a letter to the president of the RFEF reminding him that we have a lot of matters to talk about including this one”.
