A total of 24 members of professional leagues met today in London to participate in the annual meeting of the most important leagues, the event makes it possible to put down the foundations for the future of world football.
The historic meeting brought together presidents and executives from different professional leagues representing more than 1,000 clubs worldwide. The Bolivian, Chinese, Colombian, Costa Rican, English, French, German, Honduran, Italian, Japanese, Kenyan, Mexican, Nigerian, Portuguese, Qatari, Saudi Arabian, Scottish, Spanish, Swiss, United Arab Emirates and U.S. leagues were all represented at the event, along with the Association of European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL).
The debate among the leaders of the main world leagues revolved around the implementation of strategies to develop the leagues in their respective countries. They also talked about the business models of the professional leagues and relationships with players and fans.
Regardless of the particular features of the different leagues, the participants all coincided with the fact that they share the same problems and difficulties on a day to day basis. The members of world football highlighted how important it was for more established leagues to share their experiences with less advanced ones in order to help them to develop.
Lastly, the leagues attending the Forum decided that they should work together all in the same direction in order to talk as one in a world that is shifting towards globalisation, which includes football.
Ahead of the next meeting that will take place over 19 and 20 October in New York and will be hosted by Major League Soccer, the main leagues in world football decided to work together and coordinate efforts in order to continue along the same lines outlined at the first meeting.
