The month of January enjoyed by Valencia CF, Real Madrid CF, Villarreal CF, FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid has seen the clubs star in the ideal line-up chosen by the editorial team at LFP.es. Eleven players who have given their all over five matchdays and helped their sides to points and performances in the Liga BBVA at the beginning of 2015.

In goal

Not conceding goals isn’t the only job of a keeper, and in the shape of Diego Alves Valencia have a reassuring presence between the posts. The Brazilian has played a key role for his team in each of their recent games. Although he has been breached in every match, Alves has been crucial when his side have needed him most, above all against Real Madrid, with saves from two efforts by Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, against RC Celta and versus Sevilla FC, when he stopped Carlos Bacca’s penalty.

The defence

The rojiblanco Juanfran Torres and the azulgrana Jordi Alba have been the stand-out men on the flanks in recent weeks. Their speed and eagerness to join in the attack, providing penetration around the edge of the box, has seen them excel with their respective clubs.

The centre of the backline is made up of two experienced defenders who are key to Barcelona and Valencia. Gerard Piqué and Nicolás Otamendi again take their place in the Liga BBVA’s all-star eleven for their efforts as the last line of defence for their teams.

The midfield

Youth and talent are the chief characteristics of the three footballers who have this month been chosen as the best midfielders in the Liga BBVA. The displays put in by Dani Parejo for Valencia have played their part in him earning this reward and, above all, in the great season los ché are having.

It’s a similar story for Denís Chéryshev. The Villarreal midfielder has not only brought good distribution in the middle of the park. His capacity to provide assists and even be a source of danger in the opposition box have led him to flourish, the Real Madrid youth product scoring a fantastic goal against Barcelona at the Camp Nou on January’s last matchday.

Isco Alarcón is the final outstanding name to line up in the midfield. The Málaga-born player, who is taking on a more and more influential role in Madrid’s play, has fully earned his spot in the ideal eleven organised by the LFP.es editorial team.

The attack

Once again, Lionel Messi is among the top players named in the team of the month. Seven goals in the last five matchdays, including a hat-trick, vouch for his performances. And the Argentine is joined up front by young Villarreal gem Luciano Vietto and Atlético’s most in-form individual, Frenchman Antoine Griezmann, who hit the net five times in January.
