The leaders of the Liga BBVA cannot afford another stumble. With the second and third-place teams one point back, Real Madrid host RCD Espanyol, who also lost last week. The Blanquiazules have not taken three points from the Santiago Bernabéu for 18 years.

Team news
Carlo Ancelotti, the Whites' manager, has left out Sergio Ramos; Dani Carvajal is suspended and Luka Modrić is injured. Sergio González, Espanyol's coach, has called up 18 players, including Christian Stuani (the Uruguayan player who missed the match against SD Eibar).

Views from the dugout
Carlo Ancelotti commented on his team's current form: "The most important thing about winning again is that we have a lead in the league and we'd like to keep it. It is good for morale. We're going through a negative patch, but that is normal, it happens to all teams".
"The most important thing is that we give our all and compete. Against Real Madrid we have the option of going for it up front, although it may seem like suicide, or waiting at the back and trying to cut out their through-balls and suffocate their attacks", said Sergio González.
