CD Tenerife halted the Liga Adelante leaders with a 2-1 win over UD Las Palmas in the first Canary Islands derby of the season. Goals from Sergio Araujo (own goal) and Cristo Martín cancelled out the opening score from Momo to earn victory for Tenerife.
Intensity and excitement are two words that describe to perfection the first half between the Chicharreros and the Amarillos. There was a great atmosphere at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López to witness the first Canary Islands derby of the season and the goals were quick to arrive. First it was Momo who, following some trickery from Sergio Araujo and Nauzet Alemán, drove the ball in from in front of the box to open the scoring. The goal did not change the home team's plans and they gradually improved, largely thanks to Iker Guarrotxena. The Basque player hit a measured cross to the near post that Sergio Araujo deflected into his own net.
Just as the second half got underway, Tenerife sealed the win. Cristo Martín got on the end of a cross from the right to add a second goal, and the Amarillos had no response, despite their substitutions. This result gives Álvaro Cervera's men their second victory of the season, defeating their eternal rivals for the second year running at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López.
