Málaga CF and Elche CF meet at La Rosaleda on matchday 35 of the Liga BBVA in a clash in which the sides will be pursuing different objectives. The Andalusians, who sit seventh and six points off Villarreal CF, need a win to move closer to the European places after a run of seven matchdays without picking up the three points. Meanwhile, Elche – who lost 1-2 to Málaga in the teams’ first league fixture of the season – come into this game on a high after taking three victories from the last four matchdays, and with the aim of securing Liga BBVA safety.
Team news
As he looks to curb his side’s poor sequence of results, Málaga coach Javi Gracia welcomes back Ignacio Camacho after several weeks out through injury, while Fernando Tissone drops out of the squad from Wednesday’s encounter with RC Celta. Meanwhile, Elche boss Fran Escribá has named a 19-man list for the game, and will again be without injured defender Edu Albacar.
Views from the dugout
Speaking ahead of the match, Gracia declared that "the team are going to respond and continue to fight for European football next year". On the duel with Elche, he added: "It’ll be a match that’ll need a patient approach, because we’re up against a side who are in good form. We’ll need to circulate the ball quickly". Escribá underlined: "We still haven’t met our target, but we want to make the most of the good shape we’re in and seal survival against Málaga".
