Real Betis got their LaLiga World tour off to a fine start, after edging past Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen to claim their fifth pre-season win on the bounce at Dresden's DDV-Stadion.
The Verdiblancos once again produced a solid 90-minute performance to suggest that they're gaining a better understanding of their new coach's ideas with every passing game. A goal from Matias Nahuel, who was handed a starting berth by his Uruguayan boss, ultimately proved enough to separate the sides, with the Betis loanee keeping his nerve to produce a clinical finish from David Hinojosa's slipped pass.
Dani Ceballos, who continues to demonstrate just what excellent shape he's in this pre-season, was in inspired form in the middle of the park, producing a performance which earned him the Man of the Match award. Upon picking up the accolade from Fernando Sanz, LaLiga's managing director for the Middle East and North Africa, the Utrera-born midfielder spoke of his ambitions for the season: "I feel in really good shape and am very happy with the new coach. The project here is an ambitious one and we've got to have a good season for the Betis fans because they deserve it."
The LaLiga World clash saw new signing Antonio Sanabria make his Betis debut and at the final whistle the Paraguayan forward expressed his satisfaction at getting some playing time under his belt: "I'm very happy to have played my first minutes for the club after such a long time off. I'm very excited about what the season has in store for us and that's one of the reasons I joined Betis."
Ahead of kick-off the Verdiblancos took some time out to greet the members of the Spanish karate squad, who are currently in Germany taking part in a training camp under the auspices of the LaLiga World programme. Saturday morning saw representatives from the Andalusian club repay the karatekas a visit, with the Betis players being treated to an exhibition of some of their deadliest moves.
