SÁB 01.10.2016
Team News:
- RCD Espanyol: Piatti, Alvaro Vazquez, Duarte y Baptistão (injured)
- Villarreal CF: Roberto Soldado (injured)
Match Facts: Espanyol (18th, 5 pts)
- The Catalans will be striving not just to turn around their poor start to the season but also to improve their dismal record against Villarreal in recent years, having only prevailed once in the last 15 LaLiga meetings between the two clubs. That came courtesy of a 3-0 victory at El Madrigal in April 2015. Los Pericos have drawn and lost seven apiece of the other fixtures in this sequence.
- Gerard Moreno is Espanyol's man of the moment and the player who is providing them with the biggest ray of hope. The striker is in the form of his life, having scored four of his side's last six league goals.
Villarreal (4th, 12 pts)
- The Yellow Submarine are one of only three LaLiga Santander clubs that are still unbeaten after six matchdays this term. Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are the other two.
- Villarreal have their own answer to the threat of Moreno in the shape of Nicola Sansone, who also boasts four goals so far this season. What's more, the Italian has been on the scoresheet in three of his last four LaLiga appearances. His most recent strike was an exquisite dinked finish against At. Osasuna following some delightful build-up play.
