Valladolid's Calderon Theatre today hosted the 2017 edition of the National Sports Gala, an event organised by the Spanish Sports Press Association (AEPD) and recognising the biggest success stories in Spanish sport last year. LaLiga president Javier Tebas was in attendance and presented a prize to FC Barcelona representative Josep María Fuste in honour of the club's exploits in the 2015/2016 season, when the Catalans won both the LaLiga Santander title and the Copa del Rey.
Also honoured, besides Barça, were the following: Spain's women's national beach handball and roller hockey teams; Valladolid Rugby Asociacion Club; Alhambra Nievas; Real Madrid, as the 2015/2016 UEFA Champions League winners; Sevilla FC, as the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League winners; the newspaper AS, in commemoration of its 50th anniversary; Dr Antonio Escribano; Mariano Haro; Vicente del Bosque; the men's and women's national basketball teams; the men's national wheelchair basketball team; Saul Craviotto; Cristian Toro; Eva Calvo; Joel Gonzalez; the national rhythmic gymnastics team; Lidia Valentin; the Spanish Paralympic Committee; Carlos Coloma; Ruth Beitia; and Mireia Belmonte.
The ceremony was hosted by Jesus Alvarez and Estefania Rey, journalists from RTVE, the Spanish public broadcaster.
