Spain knock stuffing out of Turkey to reach round of 16

There were few early signs of Spain's eventual dominance in what was a pulsating start to the encounter between La Roja and Turkey in Nice. The European champions attempted to impose their tempo but Arda Turan and co. initially prevented Vicente del Bosque's side's passing game from settling into its groove.

However, as the influence of Andres Iniesta grew and the full-backs began to bomb on with more regularity, Spain started to boss proceedings and got the breakthrough. Nolito, a constant livewire up the left flank, served up a delicious cross for Alvaro Morata, who had only to make the slightest of contact with the ball to glance it into the net. Just three minutes later, Nolito himself made it 2-0, pouncing on a poor defensive header and slotting home following Cesc Fabregas's lofted pass.

Spain did not let their intensity drop in the second half and Morata doubled his personal tally shortly after the restart, applying the finishing touch after some lovely build-up play involving Iniesta and Jordi Alba. As the clock ticked down and with victory in the bag, Del Bosque's men delighted in strutting their stuff, spraying the ball about and continuing to carve out openings virtually at will, although they did not ultimately add to the scoreline.

The 3-0 win was enough for Spain to comfortably seal their spot in the Euro 2016 round of 16. They will now bid to clinch top spot in Group D against Croatia on 21 June.
