The leaders of the Liga BBVA and the Liga Adelante have three things in common early in the season. They are all perfect examples of solidity, ambition and goal-scoring. FC Barcelona reign, without a single defeat, atop the Spanish topflight, while UD Las Palmas and Girona FC command the Liga Adelante with ten points each from a possible twelve.
It has been a spectacular start for all of them, in which none has yet lost a game. The Azulgranas boast being the only team that is yet to concede a goal. The Canary Island outfit and the club from Girona have also made strong starts and have scored six and eight goals, respectively, conceding just two.
These goal-scoring statistics are a reflection of the teams’ desire for success in the Liga Adelante. It is in that division that the strikers have been best employed to bring their clubs three points. Canary Islander Sergio Araujo and Barcelona B’s Cameroonian forward Jean Marie Dongou have scored five and four goals, respectively, in the first four matches. One more than Alberto Bueno of Rayo Vallecano de Madrid, and Fabián Orellana of RC Celta de Vigo, the top-scorers in the Liga BBVA.
