Sweeping start of Espanyol
RCD Espanyol started the match at a high level. The intensity of Sergio Gonzalez´s men from the opening whistle was decisive to get the lead thanks to the initial goal of Felipe Caicedo, who managed to surprise the local defense in the opening minutes with a really good move. The striker from Ecuador won the back of the central defenders and dribbled Areola to score his first goal of the season.
The couple Caicedo and Gerard
One of the best news for the Barcelona team was the great understanding between Gerard Moreno and Felipe Caicedo. In the first half, both forwards showed a great rapport and got the local defense into trouble with dangerous counterattacks that faded over the course of time.

Villarreal´s blockage
After the blow suffered by the Espanyol goal, Villarreal took command of the clash but suffered to find spaces in the opponent field. Only some hesitant attacks with shots from outside the area and several actions by Samu Castillejo, were the most dangerous actions of the locals in the first half.
Soldado´s appearance
Espanyol had two very clear chances, one of Gerard Moreno, stopped by Areola, and another shot of Víctor Álvarez that hit the crossbar, when Roberto Soldado stepped in. The striker, who was not around in the game yet, caught a pass in the area and with a foreshortened shot beat Pau´s net.

Bakambu changed the game
The goal of the striker from Valencia confirmed the dominance of Villarreal throughout the second half, in which Espanyol could hardly managed to leave his field and saw decreasing the time in which they kept ball possession. A result of this, chances came through Samu and finally the Bakambu´s gol. The recent signing of Castellon gave some fresh air to the attack of the team and took a great assist by Roberto Soldado to dribble Pau and score in a great move. The final touch came with his second goal of the game in another Soldier perfect assist.
