Sevilla FC overcame Elche CF 0-2 on matchday 8 of the Liga BBVA. Three very important points for the Andalusians, who with 19 points have strengthened their hold on second place in the table. The home side, meanwhile, are still without a win at the Martínez Valero Stadium.
The Andalusian team had the first clear chance in the early stages of the encounter with a good counter-attack by Denis Suárez and Carlos Bacca, which Aleix Vidal was unable to finish, his angled shot going wide of Manu Herrera's goal. However, Unai Emery's men were creating little danger and the home side were dominating possession. Elche pressed in their opponents' half from the outset, giving very few chances to Gerard Deulofeu and Vidal, who were the ones who troubled the home side's defence the most.
After the break, Elche lost their intensity of the first half and Sevilla knew how to take advantage of the situation. In the 59th minute, Deulofeu took a free kick that was parried by goalkeeper Manu Herrera, and Bacca got on the end of the rebound to open the scoring for the Andalusian side. It was a tough blow for Fran Escribá's men, who were unable to prevent Sevilla from scoring a second. After an excellent move from Denis Suárez, Kevin Gameiro, returning from injury, headed the ball into the back of the net in his first game of the season. A very important victory for the visitors, who stay in the fight for the Liga BBVA.
