Real Madrid compensated for their heavy defeat to Atlético Madrid last week with a 2-0 win over RC Deportivo, in matchday 23 in the Liga BBVA. The three points keep Los Blancos top of the table but Deportivo will feel confident going into their next game after producing an excellent display.
The Galicians played with plenty of energy and bravery and created as many chances as any team to have visited the Bernabéu this season. The first fell to Oriel Riera after five minutes, and then Lucas Pérez and Isaac Cuenca came close, but once again Madrid proved lethal going forward. They took the lead midway through the first half through a fantastic curled effort from Isco, after Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale had each rattled the crossbar with potent shots.
Madrid and Depor kept attacking but there would be no further goals until the break. The second half began in the same manner as the first. Víctor Fernández’s side continued to believe they could take something away from the Bernabéu, and laid siege to Iker Casillas’goal in the opening minutes of the second period.
However, Madrid eventually doubled their lead thanks to another awesome display of attacking power. Just after Lucas Silva came off the bench to make his debut for Madrid, Ronaldo broke free and squared to Benzema, who chipped the ball over Fabricio to score. Deportivo kept on searching for a goal until the end, but the three points stayed in Madrid.
