Asensio off to a flying start
The Real Madrid midfielder could not have made a better debut. Marco Asensio opened the scoring in Norway with 21 minutes on the clock, and he did so with a goal to remember. He picked up the ball from a throw-in from the right flank and placed it perfectly in the top corner of Sergio Rico's net.
Equaliser on the stroke of half-time
Far from dropping their heads after going a goal down, Sevilla improved as the game went on thanks to their ball possession. Franco Vazquez made it 1-1 with a left-footed strike before the referee blew for half-time, with 40 minutes played.
Sevilla come out stronger in the second half
Jorge Sampaoli's men stepped things up a gear when they headed back out after the interval, and it was Sevilla who had the first chances of the second half. Real Madrid then managed to recover some of their vigour when Karim Benzema came on in place of Alvaro Morata and Luka Modric replaced Isco.
Penalty to Sevilla
Sevilla reversed the deficit with a Yevhen Konoplyanka spot-kick. The Andalusian side had been pushing for a comeback throughout the second half and that was when they played their best football. Their second goal finally came when the referee awarded them a penalty.
Sevilla keep hold of the ball
The effects of Sampaoli's arrival in the Sevilla dugout were palpable from the off. Sevilla were looking to move the ball around constantly and they produced the goods, with Franco Vazquez standing out as the most active player on the pitch.
Sergio Ramos levels in injury time
The match was into its 93rd minute when Sergio Ramos popped up to make it 2-2 and force extra time. The Real Madrid captain headed home off a ball by Lucas Vazquez in the dying moments to level the scores.
Carvajal grabs the winner
The winning goal came in the second half of extra time and it went Real Madrid's way. Dani Carvajal made it 3-2 and sealed UEFA Super Cup glory for Zinedine Zidane's side.
