Spanish football and the Liga BBVA have reason to celebrate. Real Madrid CF overcame Argentina’s San Lorenzo de Almagro with goals from Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale to conquer the FIFA Club World Cup and end a 2014 full of success.

After lifting the UEFA Champions League, the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Super Cup, the side managed by Carlo Ancelotti were crowned champions of a competition that they had not won since it was renamed.

The game started with the Argentine side sitting back and leaving very few cracks against a Real Madrid who set the pace of the encounter but were unable to threaten the opposition goal. Thirty-seven minutes into the game, the same player who scored the equaliser in the Champions League final in Lisbon, Sergio Ramos, made life easier for Real Madrid when he made it 1-0 going into half time.

After the break, Madrid extended their lead with a goal from Bale off a great pass from Isco Alarcón. The Whites slowed the game down and with the South American team chasing a goal to get back into the match, the Spanish side contented themselves with a 2-0 scoreline to earn Real Madrid a victory that crowns them as the best team in the world.
