Celta Vigo and Getafe drew 1-1 in Balaídos, in one of Saturday’s Liga BBVA matchday 25 fixtures.
The first half was played at a blistering pace with both teams creating goal-scoring opportunities, although it was Getafe that made the most of its chances first. One of the Madrid side’s midfielders, Ángel Lafita, who was playing as a number nine today, scored from just outside the box. The Sky Blues looked to get back into the game, and Fabián Orellana almost made it happen, first when his free kick crashed off the bar and then with a dangerous shot from the corner of the box.
After the break, the away side went in search of a second goal to seal their victory, but found themselves down to ten men early on when Lisandro López was sent off. As a result, Luis García’s men had to compensate for this setback in defence, while Celta were able to push further up the pitch. Almost immediately after the red card, Luis Enrique’s side got the equaliser thanks to a left-footed Rafinha shot from inside the area. From that moment on, Celta kept knocking on the door for a second goal, and despite subjecting the visitors to all kinds of pressure, had to settle for a 1-1 draw at full time. With this result Celta now have 30 points, four more than today’s opponents, Getafe.
