Match Facts: Sevilla:
- Jorge Sampaoli is without a number of players for his first league game in charge, but the Argentinian coach remains optimistic of getting off to a bright start in spite of these absences and the losses in the UEFA Super Cup and Spanish Super Cup.
- The good news for the Andalusians is the return of Nico Pareja, who missed both legs of the domestic Supercopa against FC Barcelona with a muscular injury.

Espanyol:
- The Catalans are also embarking on a new chapter, with Quique Sanchez Flores at the helm. What's more, they have been one of the busiest clubs in the transfer window, bringing in the likes of Jose Antonio Reyes, Jose Manuel Jurado and Leo Bapistao, among others.
- Reyes, therefore, is gearing up for a return to his former stomping ground – and the place where he made his name as a player – on the very first weekend of the campaign. "Sevilla is my home, but once the match gets underway, there are no friends," the veteran attacking midfielder said ahead of the encounter.
