Matchday 26 of the Liga BBVA comes to a close with a direct clash between rivals in the relegation dogfight. Córdoba CF and Getafe CF face off at a crucial time for the pair: neither can afford to miss any more opportunities and both need to climb the table to escape the bottom spots. Eight points separate them, and the gap could be wider come the final whistle on Monday.
Team news
The Andalusians go into the engagement without Aleksandar Pantić, who is suspended due to accumulated yellow cards, and the injured Luso Delgado, Iago Bouzón and René Krhin. Forward Babá Diawara is the major new face on los azulones’ list, while injury victims Ángel Lafita and Roberto Lago continue to wait patiently for a return to action.
Views from the dugout
Miroslav Djukić, aware that his Córdoba side are in need of points, conceded in the run-up to the match that "there are thirteen cup finals until the end of the season, and tomorrow is the first." He also spoke of his belief that he has the weapons to come out on top: "Getafe have tactical discipline and have very versatile players up front. They’ll be difficult opponents, but we have to start our comeback at home."
His counterpart in the Madrid-based outfit’s dugout, Pablo Franco, described the encounter as "hugely important" for the aims of both teams. "It’ll be difficult because the table doesn’t do Córdoba justice, but we’ll go there to beat them. It would be crucial for us, as they are direct rivals."
