Three players who are competing in the Liga BBVA this year are nominated for the Best Liga Adelante Defender award at the LFP Gala on the 2nd of December.
The chief of Villarreal CF's rear-guard last season, Mateo Musacchio played 39 matches with the Yellows in the Liga Adelante and scored two goals to help his team win promotion to the Liga BBVA. Despite his youth, the 23-year-old Argentinian was a key player for his team in the centre of defence, something that is proving to be true this season too as he remains one of Marcelino García Toral's regulars.
Edu Albácar has been a sensation in Elche CF's return to the Liga BBVA after its 24-year absence. The veteran left-back was a stalwart for his team as he notched up 38 goals in last year's Liga Adelante. Albácar's experience and knowledge on the pitch mean he is still an essential member of the squad.
Together with his current teammate at Elche, David Lombán is another of the players nominated to take the award for the Best Liga Adelante Defender. Last year he wore the colours of FC Barcelona B for 33 matches and was one of Eusebio Sacristán's most-used players for Barça's reserves. This season, together with Alberto Botía, he is one of the pillars of Fran Escribá's defence.
