Matchday 28 of the Liga Adelante provided few surprises away from home, the odd goal fes and some results that mean the competition is now tighter than ever. R. Valladolid CF, Girona FC and R. Zaragoza were defeated, while teams such as CD Numancia, SD Ponferradina and RCD Mallorca won their respective games, which opens the point margin, making it possible to fight for a Liga BBVA promotion place.
Xisco keeps scoring
The leading man of the Liga Adelante matchday was undoubtedly Francisco Jiménez "Xisco", who scored his fourth goal for Mallorca in just three consecutive games. The team from the Balearic Islands beat Zaragoza 3-2 and the forward who arrived from Córdoba CF showed his good form by contributing an important goal to really throw his team into the fight for promotion.
Ponferradina, Numancia and Mallorca have not given up on the fight for promotion
The victory of the team in the middle of the table means that they lie in wait for sixth place, which is now held by Ponferradina, who won 3-0 against Girona. Numancia ended a two game winless streak thanks to a free-kick from Julio Álvarez, while Mallorca have had three wins and a draw since the arrival of Miguel "Nanu" Soler , these figures leave them in tenth, just five points from sixth place. The difference between sixth and thirteenth place is just six points, which means that the Liga Adelante is becoming tighter and more competitive as the weeks pass.
New coach, new hopes
It is not just the top of the table that is getting closer. The teams at the bottom, most of which have had new managers for the last few weeks, took points from their games and are still aiming to stay in the Liga Adelante. UE Llagostera won 3-1 against D. Alavés, and have now gone five consecutive matches without a loss. They have taken 17 of 24 possible points since Lluís Carrillo took charge at the club.
Juan Manuel Pavón’s RC Recreativo drew 1-1 against AD Alcorcón and now have one defeat, two draws and a win since the new coach took over, stats that are similar to those obtained by Juan Carlos Mandiá at CE Sabadell. Pedro Munitis opened his account this weekend with a victory for R. Racing C., whilst the CD Tenerife side managed by Raúl Agné also won, they have managed two wins and two draws from their last few games, taking them out of the relegation zone.
