With the hours fast ticking down before the historic LaLiga World Galician derby in Uruguay, Sergio Alvarez and Pedro Mosquera – heavyweights in the RC Celta and RC Deportivo dressing rooms respectively – spoke about the rivalry between the teams. They also talked up their time in Montevideo, where the fans are eagerly awaiting the first of the three matches that are in store as part of a prestigious programme.
"This is a good opportunity to promote LaLiga, to showcase the players we've got and to bring the local football scene together with the Spanish game. I think it's a very positive experience in every sense," said Deportivo midfielder Mosquera, before detailing what being involved in the Galician derby means to him. "It's something we grew up watching as kids, and to go from watching it as a fan to playing in it is very special," he remarked.
Celta goalkeeper Alvarez echoed these thoughts and expressed his excitement about his side's momentous meeting with their local rivals through LaLiga World. "When you play in a derby, it always feels special because of everything that surrounds it. I think there's a healthy rivalry and that's a must," said the shotstopper.
