UD Las Palmas earned three valuable points against Real Sporting de Gijón (2-1) in one of the most hard-fought clashes of matchday 32 of the Liga Adelante.
The Asturian side did not take long to stake their claim for victory. A good pass from midfielder Cristian Bustos to Lora and the latter's assist to striker Lekić ended with a shot from the Serbian that hit Mariano Barbosa's crossbar. Soon after midfielder Sergio came close to opening the scoring after a great nudge from Lekić. Las Palmas struggled to find their rhythm on the pitch, with striker Carlos Aranda their liveliest player in the first half.
After the break, Sporting continued to press and once again Lekić staged another dangerous attack. The Serbian striker found himself alone in front of Barbosa, but was unable to beat the Argentine goalkeeper. In an isolated play and after a good pass over Aranda, the Malaga-born player scored to make it 1-0. On the counter-attack, Stefan Šćepović handed Lekić the equaliser on a plate. Five minutes before the final whistle, the home side's midfielder Momo scored the deciding goal to make it 2-1 with a penalty that went over Masoud. It was a vital victory for Las Palmas in their bid for promotion to the Liga BBVA, putting them in third place with 51 points.
