The Old Estrella Damm factory provided a luxury setting for recognising Luis Suárez's spectacular 2013-14 season. At the facility, the now-FC Barcelona received the ESM Golden Shoe, which recognises him as the top goal-scorer in all European leagues last season, thanks to his 31 goals, a record he shares with Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo, who will pick up his prize in the coming months.

"I would not have won this if it were not for all my teammates and all the hard work that is carried out every day", stated the FC Barcelona player, who also spoke about his possible debut against Real Madrid: "Making my debut with Barcelona in the Bernabéu would be special"

This will be Suárez's first season in a Barcelona shirt, but his signing with the Liga BBVA team would not have been possible if he had not burst onto the scene with Liverpool FC, his previous side. It was a legend of that club, Kenny Dalglish, who was responsible for presenting the award at a ceremony that was also attended by various people from FC Barcelona and the world of football.

In his nine seasons in Europe, only in the 2009-10 campaign, with AFC Ajax, did Suárez score more goals (35) than in the last. No team were able to stop the Uruguayan international from finding the net last year. 31 goals in 33 matches speak volumes of the effectiveness and voracity of the South American striker, who is now hoping to shine in the best league in the world.

Among Suárez's achievements last year were five braces, two hat-tricks and four goals in one game in the 5-1 victory over Norwich City FC.
