LaLiga Santander is back and so too is an all-improved LaLiga Fantasy MARCA, bringing even more fun and excitement for the new season. However, before the action gets underway in earnest, let's take a trip down memory lane and look back at the players that lit up the game last term.

Lionel Messi was the LaLiga Fantasy MARCA top dog in 2015/16, in which he spearheaded FC Barcelona's run to their 24th league title. The Argentinian wizard concluded the campaign with 457 points, a world-class tally befitting a world-class player.

Messi's Barça teammate, Neymar, came a close second with 451 points. The Brazilian enjoyed an outstanding season in which he got the Azulgranas fans off their seats on several occasions thanks to his silky skills, dribbling and speed.

Next up, at number three, was Atletico Madrid's midfield heartbeat. Koke was instrumental during a year that saw Diego Simeone's side challenge for the title before eventually ending up third, as well as reaching the Champions League final, in which they lost to arch-rivals Real Madrid on penalties. The Spanish schemer produced a string of superb displays – including linking up to devastating effect with Antoine Griezmann – en route to racking up 368 points. A sizeable chunk of this total was down to his 12 assists, the fifth best figure in the division.

Fourth in the overall ranking was Luis Suarez, the LaLiga Santander's top scorer last term with a whopping 40 goals. The Uruguayan's deadly finishing, not to mention his creativity and tireless running, helped him earn 364 points, just four fewer than Koke.

Lastly, Real Madrid are represented by the final member of the LaLiga Fantasy MARCA top five for 2015/16. Cristiano Ronaldo amassed 361 points over the course of a campaign in which he continued to lead from the front and was once again Los Blancos' most prolific marksman.
