The Liga BBVA was the big winner at the FIFA Ballon d’Or presentation ceremony held this Monday in Zurich (Switzerland).
The best league in the world, the Liga BBVA, boasts five representatives in the FIFA/FIFPro World XI 2014, world football’s ideal team of the year, which is voted for by more than 50,000 professional players from all around the world: Sergio Ramos, Andrés Iniesta, Toni Kroos, Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were chosen to take their place in this prestigious line-up.
The players Manuel Neuer, Philipp Lahm and Arjen Robben of Bayern Munich, David Luis and Thiago Silva of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United FC man Ángel Di María complete FIFA’s ideal eleven, which has a strong Liga BBVA presence.
Ahead of the final selection, as many as 24 footballers plying their trade in the Liga BBVA were contenders for a spot in the FIFA/FIFPro World XI 2014:
Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid CF), Claudio Bravo (FC Barcelona).
Defenders: Sergio Ramos, Daniel Carvajal, Marcelo Vieira, Pepe and Raphaël Varane (Real Madrid CF); Gerard Piqué, Jordi Alba, Daniel Alves and Javier Mascherano (FC Barcelona); Diego Godín and Filipe Luis (Atlético Madrid).
Midfielders: Xavi Hernández and Andrés Iniesta (FC Barcelona); James Rodríguez, Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić (Real Madrid CF).
Forwards: Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr. and Luis Suárez (FC Barcelona); Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Gareth Bale (Real Madrid CF).
