Liga Adelante leaders Leganes falter as the chasing pack close in

Whilst the league's front runners could only muster a draw at home to Elche, wins for Nastic, Alaves and Oviedo see them close the gap at the summit of the Liga Adelante.

CD Leganes 0-0 Elche CF

The Liga Adelante leaders strung together their third game without a loss with a goalless draw against Elche in a closely matched contest. The battle between the most tight-fisted keeper in the Liga Adelante, Jon Ander Serantes, and the top scorer in the competition, Sergio Leon, produced another stalemate, as was the case in their previous meeting this season in Elche, which also ended 0-0. The draw leaves Leganes top, but the gap between them and their pursuers shrank, whilst Elche continue putting points on the board and remain within reach of the play-off places.

Gimnastic 1-0 CD Numancia

Gimnastic proved once again that they are on flying form and made it 11 games unbeaten in the Liga Adelante as they overcame CD Numancia 1-0 in an evenly contested match. Numancia started off the game with the greater threat on goal, but Nastic improved and could have taken the lead with an Achille Emana strike which clattered the post. The Cameroonian went on to find the back of the net in the second half off a great pass from Jose Naranjo to give his team the three points and keep their direct Liga BBVA promotion dreams alive and kicking.

SD Huesca 1-2 Athletic Club B

Huesca suffered their third defeat in a row in the Liga Adelante, all of them against teams fighting to avoid relegation, leaving them in an increasingly delicate situation. A spectacular free-kick strike by Ager Aketxe put Athletic B in the ascendency, and although Huesca managed to draw level from a penalty put away by Fran Merida, Aitor Seguin was on cue on the counter-attack for the visitors to give them just their second away victory of the entire season. The win gives the bottom-placed side a glimmer of hope, although they remain a long way from safety.

At. Osasuna 0-0 CD Tenerife

Osasuna and Tenerife shared the points in a game with little between the two teams and few chances to speak of at the El Sadar stadium. The result means Tenerife maintain their positive momentum, with the islanders now having gone six games unbeaten to put them ever closer to the play-off positions. Osasuna, meanwhile, remain within those play-off places, although they spurned an opportunity to strengthen their position.

R. Oviedo 3-0 SD Ponferradina

On the back of three consecutive defeats, Oviedo got back to winning ways in the best possible manner with a superb performance against Ponferradina. The Asturian side went ahead early on with a goal by Toche, and the defender David Fernandez doubled their lead before the break. In the second half, Toche netted the third to put himself on a haul of 14 goals for the season in the Liga Adelante and seal the victory for his side. The three points leave Oviedo in the promotion play-off places and slighter closer to the leaders, whilst Ponferradina slump dangerously close to the drop zone.

Cordoba CF 1-2 D. Alaves

The Arcangel stadium played host to a clash between two direct rivals, in what was always going to be a stern test for both, and this is just how it turned out. Cordoba started the stronger and a Xisco effort served as a warning shot to the visitors, but Fernando Pacheco was equal to it to prevent his side from going in 1-0 down at half time. All three of the game's goals came in a lively second period. After Hernan Bernardello had come close to breaking the deadlock for Alaves, it was his teammate, Gaizka Toquero who converted a fine Juli cross to put the Basques in front. However, the visitors' joy was short-lived as Cordoba went up the other end and restored parity through Xisco. The Andalusians began to boss proceedings, but it was Alaves who once again took the lead, this time through Bernardello. Despite Jose Luis Oltra's side pushing hard for an equaliser, the visitors held on to leave Cordoba with maximum points.

UE Llagostera 4-0 AD Alcorcon

The Catalan outfit gave their survival hopes a real boost after easing past Alcorcon at Palamos. A first-half hat-trick from Natalio Lorenzo virtually sealed the victory for the hosts, before Fofo added a fourth after the break to round off a win that sees Oriol Alsina's men take a step closer to survival. The win moves Llagostera to within five points of safety, whilst Alcorcon slip to ninth and two points outside the play-off places.

CD Lugo 2-1 Albacete

Lugo recorded another victory in a sequence that has seen the Galicians claim 10 points out of the last possible 12, a run of form which has placed Lugo firmly in the Liga Adelante play-off mix. Jonathan Pereira netted the opener, converting a superb ball in behind from Carlos Pita. Later on, it was Pereira who turned provider when he laid the second on a plate for Pablo Caballero. Albacete reduced the arrears in the closing stages, but ended up slipping to a defeat which keeps them in the drop zone.

CD Mirandes 4-1 R. Valladolid CF

Having recorded two wins on the trot, Valladolid's march up the Liga Adelante table was brought to a sharp halt after Mirandes ran out comfortable winners in the regional derby clash. The hosts got their noses in front in the first half with goals from Ernesto Galan and Dani Provencio, before Alex Garcia and Aridane Santana completed the rout after the break. The visitors got one back with an injury-time spot-kick, in what proved to be nothing more than a consolation. This result sees Mirandes leapfrog Valladolid in mid-table.

R. Zaragoza 0-3 Girona FC

Girona made a big statement at La Romareda with a win which edges them closer to the play-off spots and sees Zaragoza slide out of them. Strikes from Jaime Mata and Cristian Herrera sent the visitors in with a 2-0 advantage at the break and the hosts' task was all the more difficult after Leandro Cabrera was given his marching orders. After the interval, Dejan Lekic put the result beyond any doubt to leave the Catalan outfit nicely placed ahead of the final run-in.

UD Almeria 1-1 RCD Mallorca

Almeria and Mallorca claimed a point a piece in their bottom-of-the-table showdown. The result leaves the Andalusians in the bottom four and places Mallorca three points above the drop zone. With 75 minutes on the clock, Hector Yuste put Mallorca into the ascendancy, but Jose Angel was on hand to rescue a point for the hosts with an 83rd-minute equaliser.
